Hollingbourne
This small housing development was built on the site of a former agricultural site, which was being used as a car workshop, next to several Grade II Listed Buildings and the Grade I Listed All Saints Church. The design of the new buildings needed to be of considerable quality to fit into this important and historic surrounding. The proposals was to develop a housing scheme of four detached properties with associated garaging and included the conversion of an original granary building that was retained on the site. The new houses were designed within the local Kent vernacular, using traditional materials and authentic details, but built to modern building standards. The buildings are all of traditional oak frame construction, with a mixture of brick, flint, tile hung and rendered external walls. The design, detailing and construction of these buildings fit seamlessly into their surroundings, and make it difficult to distinguish them from the authentic originals in the surrounding area.
