Bredgar House (Current ongoing project)

Bredgar House is a grade II listed building situated in the centre of the village of Bredgar, on the east side of The Street. Bredgar House is a three storey double fronted Georgian house, with two single storey side extension, a single storey rear projection, and a basement to the main house.

As with all historic buildings, Bredgar House requires constant maintenance. During the current maintenance program, the owners noticed signs of structural movement in the rear wall, which was believed to be the result of a damaged beam that is supporting the first floor above the southern projecting bay in the rear wall. Consent was given to replace the beam. During the opening up works, it
was discovered that the rear wall was in far worse condition than anticipated and the structural engineer advised that a large section of the rear wall in imminent danger of collapse and needed to be rebuilt. The owners liaised with the Swale Borough Council Conservation Officer, who agreed that the rear wall could be rebuilt under emergency works to a Listed Building.

The emergency works required to removal of the rear section of the rear wall and
intermediate floors of the south rear rooms, including dividing internal walls to the rear bathrooms. This work is on-going.
