11 Crow Lane, Rochester ⏐ Grade II Listed Building ⏐ Conservation Area ⏐ Alterations
This project involved the careful restoration and adaptation of a Grade II Listed Georgian townhouse in Rochester’s historic centre. The works focused on repairing and reinstating original features, including sash windows, fireplaces, cornices, and timber joinery, while addressing previous incongruous alterations. Internally, ground and first floor layouts were rationalised, arched openings were enlarged and re-aligned, bathrooms and en-suites were reconfigured, and a new attic en-suite was installed. The cellar was structurally reinforced, tanked, and converted into a functional laundry space, with a new staircase providing safer access.
Externally, the single-storey rear extension was upgraded with breathable insulation, new painted timber windows and doors, and a rendered finish, improving thermal performance while retaining its character. The mid-20th-century garage was replaced with a sympathetic new building, designed to complement the host property. Traditional materials and reversible interventions were used throughout to respect and preserve the building’s heritage significance. The project successfully enhanced both the functionality and historic integrity of the house, ensuring its long-term conservation and continued use as a family home.
