St. Stephen’s Road
This new-build four-bedroom house was constructed within the curtilage of a Grade II Listed Building and located within a Conservation Area. The design took the form of a classical Georgian townhouse, carefully conceived to be sympathetic to both the adjacent listed building and the surrounding historic context.
While externally traditional in appearance, the house was built to modern building standards, incorporating underfloor heating and a rainwater harvesting system. The classical façade features authentic architectural detailing that reflects the Georgian character of the area.
A key feature of the project was the extensive use of salvaged and reclaimed materials. The original garden wall was retained and incorporated into the new structure, forming the rear ground floor walls. The footings of an historic orangery were repurposed to create a new garden room, preserving the memory of the original layout. Internally, all doors were salvaged from a London office building undergoing refurbishment, further reinforcing the project’s commitment to sustainability and heritage-led design.
