Robert Street, Deal ⏐ Conservation Area ⏐ Mid-19th-Century ⏐ Extension
We completed a modest single-storey rear extension to a mid-19th-century end-of-terrace house within the Nelson Street Conservation Area. The project enlarged the small kitchen located in the original two-storey rear outshot, improving functionality while maintaining the building’s historic character.
The extension was designed with painted brickwork, a slate lean-to roof, and timber casement windows to match the existing fabric. Positioned entirely at the rear and invisible from public viewpoints, the addition remained subordinate in scale and fully sympathetic to the host dwelling.
The final scheme delivered meaningful improvements to the property without harming the significance of the conservation area, complementing neighbouring development while preserving the architectural integrity of the historic terrace.
