Green House Farm, Meopham Conservation Area ⏐ New Build ⏐ Alterations & Extensions

Green House Farm involved the major reconstruction of a Victorian farmhouse within the Meopham Green Conservation Area. The works included the demolition of a dilapidated 1920s extension and its replacement with a substantial new Regency-style addition. The original house was fully gutted and rebuilt, preserving its historic character while upgrading the interiors to modern living standards. Interior spaces were reconfigured, circulation improved, and top-lit rooms introduced to maximise natural light, with meticulous attention to period detail, including a checkerboard stone floor and a cantilevered carved stone staircase with a cast iron handrail in the entrance hall.

Externally, unsympathetic features such as an oversized porch, lean-to conservatory, and servant’s wing were removed, while the original pillared portico was reinstated. The extension and alterations were carefully scaled to respect the Conservation Area, preserving mature landscaping and historic boundaries, while enhancing views and creating practical modern accommodation. Overall, the project harmoniously balanced heritage preservation with contemporary design and functionality.
