Court Lodge
The site is one of the four new/modern dwellings built within the 18th century Listed Garden Wall. The western curtilage of the listed garden wall to the verge of Fridd Lane is also a part of the site.
The new house was built against the south side of the Grade II Listed Garden Wall, on the opposite side of the wall from the two earlier outbuildings, which are constructed against the north side of the garden wall. There was evidence of damp penetration within the original garden wall, which was caused by water penetration through the exposed areas of the original garden wall. The modern conservatory built between the garage and the modern boundary wall, also attached to the south side of the Grade II Listed Garden Wall was in very poor condition.
The applicants wanted to repair the original garden wall to cure the problem of water ingress and protect the fabric of the historic structure. They also wanted to demolish the conservatory building. In addition to this, wanted to restore the northern windows of the eastern outbuilding to the north of the wall, including weatherproofing the windows and introducing secondary glazing.
