Barham Mews

Barham Mews are the converted former stables attached to the east of Barham Court, which is a Grade II* Listed Building. The stable buildings were converted to residential use in the 1980’s prior to their own Grade II listed status, but at the time of the conversion Barham Mews were within the curtilage of the Grade II* listed Barham Court.

The owners of the property decided that they would now like to replace the existing casements and glazed double door leaves which are in the worst condition.

The original proposal was to repair and redecorate the existing the windows, however, a review of their condition revealed that many of the existing 20th Century windows and doors, which are now over 30 years old, are suffering from rot, and some are no longer weather tight, due to warping of the casements. This deterioration of the windows and doors is typical of joinery fabricated in softwood from this period as the fast grown timbers are of inferior quality when compared with the earlier Georgian and Victorian equivalents.

The replacements match the existing in every respect apart from a slight increase in the depth of the windows and an adjustment to the frames to accommodate this.
