The original historic cottage had a very unsatisfactory 1970’s extensions and the original front of the property faced into the modern rear garden.  The alterations to the property included the complete replacement of the extensions with a new wing accommodating a new sitting room and two bedrooms, the relocation of the main entrance to address the front of the house, and the construction of a new internal staircase.  The new elements of the building were designed to replicate an 18th Century building, within the Kent vernacular tradition, with Flemish bond brickwork with flint panels, traditional sliding sash windows and oak frame construction
