Hazeldene was an ugly little bungalow on a beautiful site. The owners, who had moved out from London loved the site but hated the bungalow and did not have the necessary funds to rebuild completely. We became involved through ‘Architect in the house’ (a donation to shelter in exchange for architectural advice) and produced a scheme for remodelling the bungalow in two phases. Phase 1, conversion of the garage to for kitchen, dining and utility was carried out in 2004 and phase 2, increasing the roof space, for master bedroom, living room with mezzanine and external cladding was completed in 2009. The completed project was commended by Ashford Borough Council in their Building Design and Construction Awards for Residential Development in 2009.
